Liu Bei's Comprehensive Chronicle

This book focuses on the records in Records of the Three Kingdoms, weaving in some principles from the I Ching to tell the ups and downs of Liu Bei's life. His life was full of hardships: he lost his wife four times and changed masters five times, and was still running about on battlefields well into old age. I think anyone who longs for success will look at Liu Bei's story and see something of their own life in it.

The I Ching is profound and difficult to understand. It contains sixty-four hexagrams, each with its own specific meaning. In fact, every hexagram can be matched to something in real life. This book finds such parallels in Liu Bei's life and brings the difficult principles of the I Ching to light through the story.

The histories that have survived were influenced to a great extent by politics. As for the truth behind certain historical events, there is no need to obsess over it. Ordinary people reading history should not fixate on what is supposedly true or false. They should focus on the lessons of events and grasp the underlying laws of things, rather than getting caught up in meaningless forms.
