Synopsis

When the Xinhai Year arrived, nothing suggested it would be the last year of this mighty empire.

The year began amid song and dance at the Empress Dowager Longyu’s birthday celebration on the tenth day of the first lunar month. But on December 25, as the year drew to a close (February 12, 1912, by the Western calendar), Longyu issued an edict of abdication, bringing China’s feudal rule to its end. In the eyes of most people at the time, including the leaders of the revolution, history’s sudden turn was inconceivable.

Renowned scholar Zhu Yong uses the art of creative nonfiction to take us back to the dynasty’s final year, and to the Forbidden City as it was then.

Any Seriously Brain-Twisting Palace Intrigue Novels?

Looking for books like "The Empress Is Sickly, Sly, and Alluring, Fighting Her Way to the Empress’s Throne". I want a really clever heroine, with the empress already having a legitimate heir, and the heroine gradually climbing her way up to become empress dowager. Ah, I don’t want romance.
