Every village has its bachelors and widows, and Lihua Village is no exception. The unmarried Mei Shanfeng returns to the village once more, full of hope. Widow Li, who once nursed him, still has her charm, but the child of his first love, Wang Qian, is already old enough to run errands. Once a legendary figure, he now wants nothing more than to live out the rest of his days under an assumed name. He finds the ordinary, trivial rhythms of village life tolerable enough.
Then one day, several men claiming to work at a construction site bring Mei Dafeng back. Grieving over his elder brother’s corpse, Mei Shanfeng happens to notice the plum-blossom-shaped purple birthmark on his body. It fades at the slightest touch. In an instant, he realizes the corpse in front of him isn’t his brother, Mei Dafeng.
To get to the bottom of the mystery, he calls on the Hyena Squad, the team he personally founded. But on a night when the moon turns blue, a radio announcement reports that every member of the Hyena Squad has died in the line of duty. Forced to regroup, he recruits his plain-spoken sister-in-law Xiuxiu, his first love Wang Qian, and Lihong, his childhood friend’s wife, forming the notorious “White Bone Spirit” Squad. Now he’s back in the game! ☞
