Snow Falls at Dusk was the title I originally wanted for this book. Sob.
A merchant who doesn’t care about profit? A doctor who only wants money? As if!
At first:
“Chief Cheng, do you want me to treat your leg?”
“Doctor Song, you’re quite the handsome fellow. No wonder people end up losing both their hearts and their money to you.”
They tested each other, neither willing to tell the truth.
Later:
“I told you not to stand barefoot on the floor. You’ll catch a chill.” Song Linchuang wiped the feet of a certain patient who never listened.
“Song Linchuang, I want candy.”
What I actually wanted to write was a food story set in Republican-era China, basically a story about taking off one’s mask for the other person.
The author put a lot of care into writing this, but the prose is average. If it’s not your thing, please click away. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Real, objective and interesting
