Reborn: Shadows Beneath Thousands of Trees

A scheming little ghost reborn × Wan Qian learns to love

Wan Qian sees Shu Ying greet her first, and her mood lifts. “Who are you? Why are you still awake so late?”

Shu Ying’s eyes turn red. His voice is hoarse, low, and trembling. “Wan Qian, you can see me now, right?”

Wan Qian wonders why he’s asking that and answers confidently, “Of course. You’re standing right here. Do you live here too?”

Shu Ying fights back his tears and chokes out, “Yeah... are you doing okay?”

Wan Qian smiles. “Yeah, I’m great! I have to go. Goodbye!”

“Don’t go, okay? Wan Qian, don’t go... I’m Shu Ying.” In the end, Shu Ying’s tears fall. He still failed to protect her, failed to make her stay.

This is the seventh day after Wan Qian’s death.

“I’m Shu Ying, the child everyone talks about. But deep down, I’m an incredibly insecure person. I’m not the good child my neighbors and teachers think I am. I’m a terrible person, because I’m a coward.

I was afraid of death, but when I was eighteen, I killed that coward. From then on, I would never be a coward again. I would only be Shu Ying.

Until I met Wan Qian. When I first knew her, she was still a little girl who never spoke to me. Her life didn’t seem to be going well either, so I followed her every day. When she smiled, I smiled too. When she was in a good mood, so was I. I fell in love with someone: Wan Qian.”
