Fate: My Good Brother

This novel tells the story of what happened during our school days: me, Weizi (real name: Chen Kewei), Feng-ge (real name: Wang Jianfeng), and Haohao (real name: An Haoxuan). Feng-ge was with me throughout our youth. We fooled around together, and whenever one of us was unhappy, we told the other what was bothering us. The truth is, I had already come to think of Feng-ge as part of my life.

Feng-ge asked me, "Do you think our friendship will last another ten years?" I thought, if we’re still together ten years from now and still as close as we are today, we’ll watch the sea in the middle of the night, meet for congee at dawn, and drink together late at night, talking about our sorrows and joys. We’ll buy a car and travel together to all the places we want to see. If by then our goals and paths have diverged, I’ll still sincerely wish you peace, happiness, and little joys of your own.

Fate is a bond that connects us to others. Sometimes meeting someone feels inevitable. We find that we have similar experiences, shared interests, or even similar personalities. Those similarities make us feel close and give us the sense that there is something special between us.

This work is dedicated to my dear friends Wang Jianfeng and An Haoxuan.
