My name is Ding Yao. Because my grandfather made a terrible mistake when he was young and incurred a karmic debt, I have no choice but to use these six years to protect my life and the lives of those around me. The Fox Clan of Changbai Mountain, the ghosts and gods of the underworld, and the many sects among the common folk have all become people I must deal with. Caught between open and covert power struggles, I have escaped death time and again, each time growing stronger as I teeter on the brink of life and death. If I don’t want to be a pawn, I must do everything I can to break the game and become the one who holds the black and white pieces.
