A locked-room murder takes place in Changling Village. Xiao Shengxuan, captain of the criminal investigation team, rushes to the scene and finds the victim wearing a horrifying mask, with two ligature marks around his neck and human tissue and blood beneath his fingernails. After a meticulous examination, the team finds only the fingerprints and footprints of the victim, Zhang Shichang, and his wife, Liu Huifang. Uncovering the victim’s relationships and identifying the killer’s motive prove crucial to solving the case. But as the investigation unfolds, Xiao Shengxuan discovers that the victim was far from simple. Though he worked at Changling Village No. 4 Hospital, he had also secretly dealt in antiques and maintained complicated connections outside the village. His father, Zhang Yuanshan, had also died just recently. According to eyewitnesses, the scene of his death likewise suggested he had “put on a mask and taken his own life.”
After Zhang Shichang’s death, Liu Huifang first invited the artist Liu Ziyan to paint a portrait of the body.
