The senior brother is human, the junior brother is a demon

Xu Zilu, the young master of the Xu family, was frail and sickly from childhood. To prolong his life, his family found him a magnolia tree to serve as his “lifetree,” binding his life to the tree’s. A male ghost named Shi Rong lived in the tree. He claimed to be a deity who had been deprived of his freedom as punishment for past crimes, unable to live or die.

If he really is a god, how did he end up like this?

The events of a hundred years ago, humans and demons, masters and disciples, brothers and lovers, right and wrong, sin and punishment: their intertwined fates and pasts are gradually revealed.

Tong Luo had three disciples, two human and one demon: Shi Rong, Ye Yanbei, and Chi Mu. They once loved one another and lived in harmony, so what drove them apart?

If the love buried deep in their hearts were spoken aloud, would it be returned? If they held hands, could they stay together forever?

When their sins catch up with them, who survives in this world, and who presses on beneath the weight of guilt? And who used a brief span of time to warm centuries of loneliness?

Tong Luo: “A human life lasts only a few decades, while demons can live for hundreds or thousands of years. Have you ever thought that if he leaves this world before you, the hundreds or thousands of years you have left will be endless loneliness? What will you do then?”

Chi Mu: “Then I’ll spend this life with him, and wait for his next life... and the one after that, until I reach the end of my own life, and neither of us remembers the other.”
