A Study of the Murong Xianbei and the History of the Five Yan States

This book is the final research outcome of a project supported by the National Social Science Fund of China. It explores the history of the Murong Xianbei and the Five Yan states, and presents the author's own insights and views. Topics include the ethnic origins, roots, names, and migrations of the Murong Xianbei; the founding, development, and decline of the Five Yan regimes; the administrative divisions, official systems, economy, culture, and religious beliefs of each regime; and the lines of development of their branches after the Northern Wei, among other issues.
