Engraving Time: An Oral History of Intaglio Stamp Engraving in China

This book illustrates an art form little known to the world and tells a mysterious story: the highly demanding and complex craft of engraving steel intaglio plates, which combines painting, carving, and technique. The engraved art used on Chinese banknotes and postage stamps shares the same origins. Introduced from the West more than a century ago, it has produced five generations of engravers. Today, around the world, engraved plates
