Fervor

It seemed to begin as a prank, a game he played out of mischief. He coveted everything his older brother had, including the woman who was his fiancee in name only.

She rose her lofty towers; she entertained her guests; then she watched it all come crashing down.

Xu Guanting looked at her with a beaming smile. "Come with me, and I'll help you."

Bai Ran sneered. "Do you like picking up the women your brother's already had that much?"

Xu Guanting: "You can look at it that way if you want."

Amid the rolling tides of business and the schemes and passions of the mortal world, Bai Ran reminded herself that she and he were only engaged in a transaction, and that she mustn't give her heart away in vain.

She walked away and calmly told him, "Your brother is back. The game's over."

But the arrogant, stubborn man refused to let go. He held her down tight, his eyes bloodshot as he growled, "But it was me, all along. I was the first to fall for you!"
