[A fiercely righteous heroine & a down-on-his-luck hero who gets into fights]
[Healing + mutual devotion + campus romance + academic stars]
One midsummer, in a second-year high school classroom, Shen Zhilin met the person whose world she was going to save. Shao Wenyu's mother died young, and his father spent all his time out shirking responsibility. Because of his father's debts, Shao Wenyu was constantly chased by a bunch of young thugs.
"Shao Wenyu, can you stop being such a coward? If they hit you, hit them back."
"If you can't handle them alone, I can help you."
"You? Take a little girl with me to a fight? What would that even look like?"
"Who are you calling a little girl?" She swung her fist straight into his stomach before he had a chance to react.
He clutched his stomach and laughed. "Fine, you win."
Many of the scars on Shen Zhilin's body were because of him, and he felt ashamed. "I don't want a girl who was so well protected by her family to end up covered in wounds because of me."
Shen Zhilin felt her nose sting and choked out, "When you see me, when you see the injuries on my body, don't you feel guilty?"
"You should feel guilty toward me for the rest of your life."
Under the dim light, he gently wiped away her tears, facing the girl who had risked everything for him.
What he owed her was more than a promise, and more than a simple 'I love you.' The things that could never be made right would take him a lifetime to repay.
