The Tale of the Wanhua Tower

The Tale of the Wanhua Pavilion, also known as The Early Adventures of Di Qing, is a historical novel from the Ming and Qing dynasties.

A continuation of the Generals of the Yang Family stories, The Tale of the Wanhua Pavilion recounts how famous Northern Song figures Di Qing, Bao Gong, Yang Zongbao, and Yang Wenguang fought the Western Xia and punished treacherous officials, with Di Qing as the central protagonist.

After studying martial arts, the young Di Qing kills Hu Lun, a notorious villain, at the Wanhua Pavilion. Bao Zheng handles the case impartially, and Di Qing is saved.

Later, Di Qing is reunited with his aunt, Empress Dowager Di, and becomes a member of the imperial family. He goes on to fight the armies of Western Xia and, alongside Bao Gong and the Yang family, bravely battles corrupt factions at court.

The author’s masterful prose and deep literary skill bring the characters vividly to life, each with a distinct personality.

The story is lively and vivid, making for highly engaging reading. Yang Zongbao’s exceptional martial skills and steady maturity, Di Qing’s fiery spirit and youthful recklessness, Bao Zheng’s uncompromising justice and resourcefulness, Fan Zhongyan’s foresight and refined manner, Jiao Yangui’s bluntness and rash courage, and Pang Hong’s cunning and venomous heart all leap off the page.
