In order to pursue love, Zhang Peiran, a son of a wealthy family in Shanghai, recklessly participated in an assassination operation launched by his female classmate Tong Hui in order to cooperate with Zhou Jianfeng, the liaison officer of the Eighth Route Army. He was forced to flee Shanghai and followed Tong Hui to the liberated area.
