Synopsis

This is the first volume, The Coup and the Early Reign, in the historical novel series The Kangxi Emperor. Kangxi ascended the throne at the age of eight, with four regents appointed by the late Shunzhi Emperor: Sonin, Suksaha, Ebilun, and Oboi. Oboi grew arrogant over his achievements and acted tyrannically. After the senior statesman Sonin died of illness, Oboi won over Ebilun and executed Suksaha for refusing to cooperate with him. He seized control of the government, often roaring in the imperial court and forcing Kangxi to submit to his wishes. Kangxi took power at fourteen, but Oboi not only refused to return authority to the emperor, he also formed a faction for personal gain, gathered loyal followers, and plotted to murder the emperor and seize the throne.

Books Rated 9.7, 9.8, or Higher

Don't recommend anything rated below 9.7. I won't read it, so you'll just be wasting your time. If I wanted something rated below 9.7, I could find it myself. I want highly rated works with a compelling, fast-paced plot and protagonists with sound values. Thanks.
