Looking for an Elegant Historical Chinese Romance Without Outlandish, Over-the-Top, or Brain-Dead Tropes

I want something with elegant, delicate writing. Not the kind that opens with someone getting disfigured or having their heart cut out. That's too melodramatic and clumsy. And no side characters like concubine-born daughters or female antagonists publicly attacking the heroine at banquets. People like that wouldn't survive three hours in ancient times unless they were faking their deaths. It's so unrealistic.
