Humanity has reached an advanced level of technology. AI, robots, and even mechanical prosthetics have become commonplace. Then, one day, meteorites struck many parts of Earth with varying degrees of force. Most were naturally shattered before hitting the surface, but their fragments still scattered across the planet. A strange, radiation-like power within the meteorites affected every kind of animal life to varying degrees, and they were given the name "Lacquer Beasts."
Though technology is highly advanced, after years of fighting, humanity has been driven onto a single continental plate. There, they built an impassable wall capable of holding back the nonhuman Lacquer Beasts. Technology continues to serve its purpose, bringing humanity several years of peace, at least within the wall.
At the same time, over the long course of history, many people have discovered that humans who are only mildly affected by the meteorites also undergo changes to varying degrees, gaining powers akin to superpowers. But... over the course of these several hundred years, not only the world but even the United Nations, humanity's last refuge, has been changing from within.
