August 15, 2025: 80th anniversary of victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan
Today I went to see The Nanjing Photo Studio. It’s a film every Chinese person should watch, and a piece of history the Japanese should watch too.
After two and a half years, the story of Mo Rongqing and Jiang Zhe is finally finished ☽
I was especially afraid to write about that humiliating, bloody period of the War of Resistance Against Japan. But we should all know about the unyielding spirit of the Chinese people during those years.
Thank you for being willing to open this story and listen. I’m grateful you stayed with it.
In the seventh month of the thirty-third year of the Republic, the ground outside Hengyang was strewn with corpses.
With trembling hands, He Lingyun pulled a photograph from his clothes. In it, Mo Rongqing cradled the hundred-day-old Shenghua, smiling with tender affection. He gazed greedily at the people in the photograph, as if trying to etch them deep into his memory.
At last, he kissed the two people in the picture, reluctant to let them go, then fired the final bullet he had saved for himself. He died before dawn.
“Rongqing, goodbye! In our next life... in our next life, you must remember me. We’ll be together again... No Japanese invaders, no war. We’ll live peaceful, ordinary lives...”
The content is good, but the narrative style feels a bit bland and there is no thrilling plot. At first I thought it was a bit bland, but after reading it carefully I found it to be real and touching 👍👍
