Gu Jia had known since childhood that her father had been exiled here by the emperor. Her father was exceptionally capable, but what could he do when the emperor despised him?
He was the governor of an entire prefecture, yet they were often short on money. This time, they were especially unlucky: a once-in-a-century flood struck. Her father wrote memorial after memorial asking the emperor for funds, but the emperor refused to give them a single coin. With such an unreliable emperor, Gu Jia was at a loss. Sigh, everyone in the whole prefecture was waiting for something to eat. What could they do? She could only rack her brains to help her father.
A few caveats: 1. The story is a slow burn, and the male lead appears very late. The early part focuses mainly on duty to family and country, family bonds, and friendship. Her background and political intrigue come into play later.
2. The story is divided into the Shu region, the capital, and the northern lands. Each section has different stories, and the heroine is not the sole protagonist.
3. The author isn’t a full-time writer, so updates are slow, but there will be an update every day.
