The Dragon: A Love Across Three Lifetimes

In the TV drama The Legend of Dragon, Liuying is the sweet, scatterbrained maid who serves the young lady Xiahou Xue. By chance, she saves a snake in her mistress's place. To her surprise, amid a swirl of purple energy, the little snake transforms into a thousand-year-old Yinglong. The Dragon King, Yuchi Longyan, claims he must repay her life-saving kindness by marrying her.

When Xiahou Xue is injured by a wolf demon, the Dragon King goes to Luo E Pavilion at Liuying's request to retrieve Xiahou Xue's soul. Xue Qianxun tells him that he must protect Xiahou Xue for three lifetimes under the pretext of repaying his debt. The Dragon King then learns that Liuying once swore a blood oath to die alongside Xiahou Xue. If Xiahou Xue dies, Luo E Pavilion will be able to take Liuying's extremely yin primordial spirit and use it to seal the Heavenly Net. Unwilling to let Liuying's soul remain sealed in the Heavenly Net forever, the Dragon King gives up his chance to wait a thousand years and become a true dragon, choosing instead to protect Xiahou Xue for three lifetimes.

But when he sees Liuying marry another man, the Dragon King tastes the pain of love and the ache of longing for the first time. To be by Liuying's side in her next three lifetimes, he endures excruciating pain to tear out the reverse scale beneath his neck and attach it to the man destined for Xiahou Xue. That way, the Celestial Realm will never learn of the Dragon King's failure to keep his promise. For three lifetimes, he devotedly protects Liuying's reincarnations, shielding her from every danger and hoping that after those three lifetimes, they can finally be together. But he never realizes that all of it is part of a century-old conspiracy.
