Patriarch Bodhi accepted Sun Wukong as his disciple and taught him seventy-two transformations. This rebellious monkey was naughty and unruly, causing trouble everywhere, causing Patriarch Bodhi to lose face in both the heaven and the immortal world. Then he wanted to accept the lay girl Tianxiang as his disciple. After being enlightened by the Guanyin of Nanhai Jishi, he was allowed to go through ninety-nine and eighty-one hardships, and became indestructible. He was then taught the seven-seven-seven-forty-nine transformation techniques of softness to overcome hardness, and stay away from bloody violence. In the end, he achieved immortality.
