The Nanjing Massacre

On December 13, 1937, Japanese invaders breached Nanjing and carried out a massacre of unimaginable brutality. In the weeks that followed, the Japanese troops who entered the city, emboldened by their sense of superiority as occupiers, brutally slaughtered more than 300,000 Chinese defenders who had laid down their arms and ordinary civilians. They left a wound in the hearts of the Chinese people and in the history of the Chinese nation that would never truly heal.
