Breaking Out of the Northern Wilderness

Preface: In May 1970, a group of young people from Shanghai's Class of 1969, who had just graduated from junior high school, arrived at Regiment 18 of the Heilongjiang Production and Construction Corps. The passage of time may have caused this generation to be forgotten, but many of them still live among us as ordinary people. Recording and remembering the path they walked, without dwelling on their hardships but highlighting their perseverance, remains deeply meaningful in today's materialistic society. Looking back at the resilience they developed through hardship, we can see how it became a guiding principle that sustained them after they returned to the cities. The educated youths such as Wang Tianlong depicted in this book are a microcosm of that extraordinary era.
