Leng Pei pouted and thought for a moment. “You don't think something happened, do you?”
“What could possibly happen?” Chen Baidong mysteriously pulled four fragrant pears from his backpack, wiped one with his hand, and passed it to Leng Pei.
“Besides, we've got a cadre with a vehicle. What does it have to do with me?”
His words left Leng Pei frozen just as he was about to take the pear. So I'm just the fall guy, huh?

Chen Baidong nearly spat out a mouthful of sweet pear juice. “Fine, you win.” He turned around and pulled out another one, placing both in Leng Pei's hands. No more than that, though.
Leng Pei didn't care. He wiped a pear on his camouflage uniform and bit into it with a crunch. It was so sweet.
