Some people may think that Zeng Shusheng is an exception, but the freedom she pursues may be shackles in another sense, shackles that ultimately bind her. She may be abandoned when she is old and beautiful, but she may also continue to live "freely" - enjoying dancing and singing every day. But in my opinion, this is not freedom. She pursues freedom, but at the same time she is losing it. In addition, "Cold Night" also reveals to us another world that we cannot see: some people are cheering for victory, and some people are dying painfully in the cheers. We should understand that behind the war are the deaths of endless people. There may be glory, but more of them are blood, tears, and lamentations. I am not denying the rationality of the war at that time, but I am unwilling to see any unnecessary advocacy or even provocation of war.

The author starts from the details, as if he is living in the world in the book, which can be said to be immersive writing. The author has sympathy and criticism for the three protagonists. Regarding Shu Sheng, at first I only briefly thought of the conflict between her and her mother-in-law, and her own pursuit of happiness and freedom. What the author criticizes is that she did not actively seek a new way out, but was willing to be a vase; what the author criticizes is that her so-called happiness and freedom are empty and nihilistic, and she has not obtained true satisfaction and happiness. But Shusheng himself did not discover it, perhaps because he was unwilling to discover it. In short, as the author said, this was the unreasonable old system that forced them to perish and destroy.
