A little metaphysics, with some entertainment-industry elements.
Over the course of two lifetimes, Ye An has picked up people twice out of the goodness of his heart. The first was his junior apprentice nephew, who was all ambition and no skill. He spent every day shirking his duties and dreaming of going down the mountain to vanquish demons and become a big shot, and eventually turned into Ye An’s living comeuppance.
The other was Gu Ziye. When they first met, he had just been bullied and was filthy from head to toe. Ye An took pity on him and brought him home. That once-filthy boy later became Ye An’s whole world.
As the most doted-on junior apprentice at Tianyuan Mountain, Lu Yu always believed that his abilities were directly proportional to how much everyone favored him. His confidence soared even further after the little martial uncle who had always kept him in check went down the mountain. But after sneaking off the mountain himself, he wound up in another world. Fortunately, with his little martial uncle here too, he was still the most doted-on junior apprentice. It was just that the man practically radiating baleful energy was a little scary.
After lingering in the mortal world for a thousand years, Shangguan Hengqi still has no regrets, even though he is now a fierce ghost. The boy he happened to pick up was a bit of a handful, but he brought some life to Shangguan Hengqi’s lonely courtyard. But it was only when that boy brought the person Shangguan Hengqi had longed for day and night before him that he understood just how wonderfully mysterious fate could be.
