I had just finished playing ball, and hadn't even wiped off my sweat when the world changed. Dragonite flew over my head delivering packages, Machamp hauled bricks at the construction site next door, Magnemite powered the entire city, and Meowth called out "Welcome!" at the convenience store. Snorlax flopped down at the subway entrance, paralyzing the entire morning rush and ruining everyone's perfect attendance bonus.
Being a Trainer had become a legitimate profession. You had to get licensed, earn rankings, and compete in leagues. It was even more cutthroat than the college entrance exams.
And me? Jiang Feng, eighteen years old, an ordinary high school student with no resources, no connections, and no Starter Pokémon. I had to scrounge for Poke Balls, and the most valuable thing I owned was the Defiant spirit I'd felt after playing ball.
The good news: becoming a Trainer was no longer just a dream.
The bad news: you needed a license to pursue that dream, and I couldn't even scrape together the registration fee.
Other people transmigrated with a System. I transmigrated with a body covered in sweat.
But since I'm here, it'd be a shame not to win a championship, right?
Starting from zero, I'll get licensed, challenge Gyms, and make it to the league, taking a partner nobody believes in and carving out a place for myself in this city.
Zero doesn't mean nothing. Zero is the starting point.
Though, for now, my starting point looks a little shabby.
