This is a wuxia story about revenge. The heroine, Wu Qing, was trained from childhood to be a cold-blooded assassin. Her only purpose in life is revenge: first, to kill the Jinyiwei Commander, and second, to overthrow the current Ming Dynasty. By chance, she meets the hero, Wu Bian. When she discovers that he is the Commander’s son, she assumes the name Zhang Qing and pretends to befriend him, using him to infiltrate the Commander’s residence. But along the way, she falls in love with Wu Bian. Meanwhile, Wu Qing learns that she is in fact a princess of the previous dynasty. The feud between their families and the conflict between their countries make it impossible for her and Wu Bian to be together. They turn against each other, and in the end she makes her choice: she lays down her sword and retreats into a monastery.
