Following the county Party committee’s poverty-alleviation work conference, a group of young officials with strong political credentials and excellent coordination skills is selected and dispatched to serve as resident first secretaries in the county’s eight poorest village committees, guiding and coordinating efforts to lift impoverished villages out of poverty and into prosperity.
Lei Tongjun is assigned to the poorest village committee, Baozigou. On his very first day, villagers from two hamlets clash over a road construction project. At the critical moment, Lei Tongjun rushes into the fray and resolves the dispute with an approach that is both firm and humane.
With Lei Tongjun’s arrival, the village committee’s lax, unproductive work culture is transformed. He can be seen everywhere in the fields, conducting research, and under his leadership, one development challenge after another is overcome. Baozigou goes from a poor village to one of the county’s leading examples of prosperity and poverty alleviation.
With his meticulous yet adaptable approach and distinctive personal charm, Lei Tongjun not only fires up the people of Baozigou, but also attracts a wave of investors. He embodies the inspiring ideal of a grassroots official who serves both country and people.
