Xu Yang, a university graduate, returns to his hometown to work at a state-owned company at his parents' insistence. His work is dull and monotonous. His only pleasure is mooching meals and drinks at the home of his Fifth Uncle, listening to him brag about his "great achievements" as a young man. Fifth Uncle Xu Minghong was a mischievous young man, but also a loyal friend who knew all kinds of shady characters, including gifted people versed in "unorthodox arts," such as Liu Yan, who knows feng shui and geomancy; Zou Guangming, who catches ghosts and wards off evil; and the blind fortune-teller Luo, who practices divination.

The appearance of a golden-threaded handkerchief embroidered with the Ghost Soul Sutra raises even more questions about Zou Guangming's strange death all those years ago. To save his colleague Zhou Xu, who has been possessed, and uncover the truth, Xu Yang and his Fifth Uncle form a small team of specialists through a "fortunate coincidence." But their actions also accidentally bring to light a sinister curse spanning many years and the mysterious organization behind it...
