The late emperor had not completed half of the enterprise he began before he passed away. Now the realm is divided into three, and Yi Province is worn down. This is truly a time of grave crisis, when our very survival is at stake. Yet the ministers who guard Your Majesty remain diligent within the palace, while loyal and devoted men risk their lives beyond it. They do so because they remember the late emperor’s special favor and wish to repay it to Your Majesty. Your Majesty should indeed listen widely to the opinions of others, thereby honoring the late emperor’s legacy and bolstering the resolve of the loyal and ambitious. You must not belittle yourself or make inappropriate allusions, thereby blocking the path of loyal counsel.
