The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is one of China’s Four Great Classical Novels. Classic episodes like “Huarong Trail,” “Empty Fort Strategy,” and “Longzhong Plan” are familiar to every Chinese person. Yet very few people have actually read the entire novel. The reason is simple: the original was written in classical Chinese, and reading it requires a higher level of literary knowledge and a great deal of patience.
I know that younger readers prefer accessible, entertaining stories, so I translated the original Three Kingdoms novel into modern vernacular Chinese, while adding some of my own interpretations and staying as faithful to the original as possible.
I hope my readers will find some inspiration after finishing my new Three Kingdoms novel.
