Conquest and slaughter, fear and fury: is this a contest of raw instinct, or a battle of wits?
A cloud of terrifying war hangs over the Central Plains during the Warring States period. King Huai of Chu’s iron armies keep expanding westward, becoming a force that inspires terror across the land. In the year King Huai prepares to join forces with Qi, Yan, and other states to conquer Qin, a cunning and formidable spy from Qin named Chi Dan secretly infiltrates the court in Yingdu, the capital of Chu. He continually steals state secrets and sends them back to Xianyang, Qin’s capital, while plotting a vast conspiracy in Yingdu. When Su Mingyao, head of Chu’s intelligence agency, the Mirror Office, learns of the spy, he is enraged. He summons every member of the Mirror Office that very night and lays trap after trap throughout Yingdu, determined to capture the traitor. And so, a gripping shadow war suddenly erupts in Yingdu. Meanwhile, far away in the west, Qin Huiwen and his chancellor Zhang Yi are burning incense, playing the zither, and leisurely playing chess in the palace at Xianyang, as if everything is already in their hands.
