Synopsis

As the saying goes: "The mighty Ming boasts thirteen provinces, where heroes fill the hills and dragons and tigers clash, yet the common folk are nowhere to be seen. China has stood for five glorious millennia, its soldiers covering the land and battling for the throne, but who remembers the people?"

After the Hongwu Emperor's death, his young grandson Zhu Yunwen ascended the throne. Zhu Di, Prince of Yan, controlled the empire's northern frontier through the Great Wall garrison. Opposed to the system of enfeoffment, he raised the frontier troops in rebellion under the pretext of purging corrupt officials, marched south, and defeated the emperor's forces in Nanjing.

He exiled his nephew Zhu Yunwen overseas. But though the imperial line had changed, the people were in turmoil. In the third year of Yongle, Emperor Chengzu of Ming died suddenly after falling from his horse while hunting. Though the princes of Ning and Jin had long been plotting, they could only launch their revolt in haste. The situation quickly spiraled out of control.

During the Hongxi era, the princes fought one another until the Nanjing Princes' Conference was held. An imperial edict preserved the Northern Ming emperor's throne, but the Ming Empire was torn to pieces, and no one benefited. Over the following decades, Zhu Zhanji governed with renewed vigor, and signs emerged that the sun and moon might once again shine together and the realm be reunified. But the road to revival for the beleaguered Yan capital court came to an end in Luoyang several years earlier.

Thus began the legend buried in the vast sea of history: the Ming princes, seeking to restore the sun and moon and rebuild China, carved the land into fiefs, with princes and lords arrayed one after another, while the Yan capital court fell apart.

(Thanks to the wonderful author Mei Zheng for providing the mod storyline. This is a fan work.)
