While descending to the mortal realm to subdue demons, Bai Yu, princess of Little Qingqiu, is accidentally infected with a venomous curse by a demon strategist. She heads to the South Sea in search of a cure, but inadvertently awakens memories of the past. Each memory leads to a deeper one. Though she holds the position of a goddess, she breaks the law for love, is wrongly hated by her disciple, and willingly accepts Heaven's punishment, falling into reincarnation. She experiences separation and death, along with every one of life's eight sufferings.
Fortunately, as she endures the pain of reincarnating through lifetime after lifetime, the little boy she once adopted stays quietly by her side, protecting her. In some of those lives, she may have loved the wrong person and been wrongly hated, but the one who loves her deeply has always been there. She simply never noticed.
It isn't until the very end, at the starlit lake in the South Sea, where she accepts the memories of her past life, that she sees everything the little boy has endured in silence. Her heart aches so badly she can barely breathe, yet she still manages to smile and say, “Don't worry. This time, I won't leave…”
The story moves at a fairly slow pace, with love blossoming over time.
The heroine is quiet, violent, and powerful. The hero is devoted and pursues her through lifetime after lifetime. He seems totally composed in front of others, but in truth he's a clingy, tearful puppy who loves to act spoiled. Woof, woof, woof! Look at me, big sis!
It's been a long time since I read a traditional fairy tale novel. After reading two chapters, I fell in love with the heroine. She is strong and smart, not pretentious, doesn't talk too much nonsense, she just does it when she gets started. I love this kind of heroine so much!
