The modern Japanese novelist Junichiro Tanizaki was deeply influenced by traditional oriental culture, and especially yearned for and loved Chinese culture. He visited China twice in 1918 and 1926 and made friends with important Chinese writers such as Guo Moruo and Tian Han. After returning to China, he was deeply fascinated by Chinese customs and customs, and created a number of related travel notes, novels and essays. This book selects some of the most important ones, and also includes three of Tanizaki's novels about India and Westerners. After reading the six short articles in the book, readers can easily and obviously feel a different "exotic mood".

This book reminded me of a friend of mine who also lived abroad for a while. The foreign cultures and customs described in the book allowed me to sympathize with her experiences and feelings abroad. Moreover, the author's understanding and views on different cultures in the book also made me think about my own choices about marriage and future. Maybe just like the author, I also need to explore and accept different cultures in order to truly find my own direction. Overall, this is a very enlightening book and worth reading.
