“I may not be captivated by beauty, but I was born to love you.” She was once a sweet osmanthus tree in the Medicine King Bodhisattva’s pharmacy, where she spent more than nine hundred years being used to test medicines. An accident during one such test left her on the brink of death. With the Medicine King Bodhisattva’s help, she continued her cultivation in the mortal world. All she had to do was live out a peaceful mortal lifetime to ascend to immortality, but instead she encountered a ruthless prince known as the “King of Slaughter.”
He drank her blood, and she stole his heart. She tested poisons for him, and he ached for her. Each time he left, she would give him a sprig of sweet osmanthus: Wherever you go, I hope you return victorious.
