[Traditional historical romance in a fictional setting] No wild fantasy, no transmigration, no rebirth, no System, just a little melodrama and a touch of sweet romance. The story has the light taste of Huaiyang cuisine and the simple smoothness of Suzhou noodles. If that's your cup of tea, come on in!
The heroine, Qingyuan, is the illegitimate daughter of a powerful minister. When she is young, her birth mother takes her away from the capital. She grows up in the countryside at the Bai family home, disguised as a boy and working as a young master's attendant. By chance, she meets the hero, Bai Xishan, who brings her back to the prosperous capital. But when he falls for her, he sends her a thousand miles away so he can avoid seeing her and keep his mind at ease.
She works as a constable, loses her job, gets kidnapped by her legitimate elder brother, is teased by a prince, and sees the man she loves cheat on her. Her life sinks to rock bottom, until the hero, a complete fool for love, holds a knife to her prospective father-in-law's neck and forces him to acknowledge her as his daughter.
The illegitimate daughter returns, but the hero is cruelly cast aside and reduced to a “dead man” with no identity.
Three years on the east bank, three years on the west, but there's no bridge across the river...
Good content and good writing
It's really good to read. I like this kind of ancient short story that doesn't involve time travel. It's wonderful, and the writing is brilliant.
Damn, so that's the male protagonist?
