Tales of a Construction Foreman

A construction contractor is, as the name suggests, someone who takes on construction projects, hires workers, and leads the job. It is a product of particular historical circumstances. Many people see contractors as “exploiters” who have made their fortunes by squeezing the blood and sweat out of migrant workers. The truth, however, is quite different. Today’s contractors may look glamorous on the surface, but their lives are full of hidden dangers. Through Zhang Shaofeng’s experiences pursuing unpaid wages, borrowing money, having an affair, bribing people involved in projects, and covering up accidents, this book tells the untold stories of construction contractors and lifts the veil on this mysterious industry.
