A ship called the Rosalie sets sail from France carrying a large cargo of perfume and wine. Halfway through its voyage, it suddenly loses contact. Several weeks later, the navy finds the Rosalie in those waters. The ship shows no signs of damage, and not a soul is aboard. All the crew have vanished as if they had evaporated into thin air. Yet the cargo in the hold is completely untouched, and the fruit is still fresh. The only living creature left aboard is a canary, starved nearly to death. No one notices the dust caught in the cracks of the deck. No one knows it is the ashes of human bones...
