The Spirit Medium

There are three kinds of questions you must never ask when performing a rice divination: questions about your immediate family, about wrongfully dead vengeful spirits, or about anyone whose name is unknown.

All these prohibitions are meant to prevent one thing: a vengeful spirit latching onto you.

Rice can serve as a bridge between the worlds of yin and yang. This kind of rice carries a trace of yin energy, and I survived by eating it because my fate is yin by nature.

That's how I became a rice diviner. But when I completed the ritual to pay respects to the immortals, an eerie black snake tattoo appeared on my wrist.

Some say that when a snake pattern appears on your skin, a vengeful snake has come to claim your life.
