Sun Wukong, If I Turn to Evil, There Will Be No Buddhas in the World

“If I become a Buddha, there will be no demons in the world!”

“If I become a demon, what can the Buddha do to me?”

“If I become a monster, I’ll crush the highest heavens!”

“Old man Tathagata, all along the way, you’ve schemed against me at every turn and tried to stop me from becoming a Buddha. Fine, then, I’ll do as you wish!

“Today, I, Old Sun, swear here to become a demon!

“One day, I swear I’ll slaughter every god and Buddha in all the heavens!
