Xue Rengui's son Xue Dingshan was killed by the treacherous minister Zhang Tai, and his whole family was executed. Xue Gang, the third son of Xue Dingshan, was a strong man and refused to give in. He rebelled against the Tang Dynasty and avenged a bloody feud.
