The late autumn rain fell in the soot of Willen City. Alan Morris found a diary among his parents' belongings that should not exist. His father's handwriting records a world that was deliberately buried - serial potions, the Night's Watch Council, and a warning written in blood: Don't believe in any gods.
A hundred years ago, humans signed a contract with the original existence and exchanged a seal for survival. One hundred years later, the seal was loosened, and the "gods" who claimed to be guardians sacrificed their souls to the abyss, just to dilute the pollution in the blood. They are lying. They've been lying.
Allen is just a librarian at Velen University, and his greatest specialty is identifying the authenticity of seventeenth-century ancient books. But when he drank the potion that changed his destiny, when he saw the crawling shadows in the sewer, when he discovered the truth about the death of his parents who were buried in the deepest part of the Tower of Silence - he could no longer pretend that everything was normal.
In the industrial city shrouded in steam and gaslights, madness is awakening. Street flyers were printed with yellow symbols, female workers' brains were completely removed, and the midnight clock struck the nightmare of the entire city. All clues point to the indescribable eyes that stare at humans at the end of the abyss.
This is a story about broken faith. When the gods become prisoners, when the seal becomes a lie, when an ordinary person holds up a kerosene lamp to light the way forward - even if the firelight is weak, the abyss is already staring.
"The story is not over yet."
Allen closed the diary and looked out the window at the endless rain. Deep in the abyss, a pair of eyes slowly opened.
