A Hundred Ghosts Carry the Coffin

That year, a little baby in a red bellyband came knocking at the door in the middle of the night.

That year, a woman in red sat up inside a coffin with a living person in it.

That year, a hundred ghosts carried that coffin through the world of the living.

That year, someone told me that if I ever encountered “a red-clad woman carrying a coffin, an ancient tree weeping blood, or a golden Buddha turning around,” I had to run for my life.

But how could I have known? Sometimes, no matter how vast the world is, nothing is bigger than a coffin with a living person inside. No matter how far I ran, I could never escape life and death.
