A Peerless Statesman: The Legend of Han Xin

This book recounts the legendary life of Han Xin, one of history’s great generals. As a boy in Huaiyin, Han Xin was ambitious from an early age. He and his mother lived in poverty at the bottom of society, but no hardship could extinguish his burning ambition. He studied tirelessly, but after completing his education, he soon ran through his savings and had to travel with merchant caravans to survive. When the peasant uprisings broke out at the end of the Qin dynasty, he first enlisted under the uncle-and-nephew duo Xiang Liang and Xiang Yu. Feeling undervalued, he later joined Liu Bang, the King of Han. Thanks to the strong recommendation of Xiao He, the Han chancellor, he was appointed commander in chief of the Han army. Far-sighted and brilliant in the art of war, he embarked on a spectacular career as a military leader...

The book offers a detailed portrait of Han Xin’s life, highlighting both his military genius and his many victories, as well as his personal relationships. It vividly traces the changes in his inner life as he went from a man whose achievements surpassed all others to one who was executed along with his entire clan. Blending classical history with the modern spirit, the book focuses on Han Xin’s inner journey and recounts his romantic entanglements with several women. Throughout, it portrays a brilliant military genius who was bold and spirited, steadfast and far-sighted, yet also sensitive and deeply affectionate!
