At the end of the Southern Song dynasty, Guo Jing, the Northern Hero, and Huang Rong, the Heroine, valiantly defend Xiangyang. Yang Guo, the Divine Condor Hero, gives them the Darksteel Heavy Sword. Huang Yaoshi travels across the land, visiting famous mountains and rivers in search of a master swordsmith. Together, they forge two peerless weapons, the Heaven-Reliant Sword and the Dragon-Slaying Saber, and hide the Nine Yin Manual and the Testament of Wumu inside them. The Mongols repeatedly fail to take Xiangyang, so they rely on Han Chinese advisers and recruit extraordinary figures from the martial world. Among them are the three Taoists Yi Sun, Bai Sun, and Ju Sun, whose Dark Nether Palm, White Bone Yin-Yang Fist, and Corpse-Poison Heart-Corroding Art are so sinister that they counter the masters of the Central Plains martial world in many ways. Yet Xiangyang's high walls and deep moats, elite troops, and valiant generals keep the city safe, and the Mongols still cannot take it after a long siege. Kublai Khan racks his brains for a way to break through. Then one day, a spy delivers a secret report: Zhu Ziliu's nephew nearly came to blows with Da Wu and Xiao Wu after they insulted Lü Wende. Kublai suddenly understands. “So Xiangyang relies on Lü Wende, the man who plays the pig to eat the tiger! To take Xiangyang, we must first eliminate Lü Wende.” He sends the Three-Sun Taoists into the city to assassinate him. Huang Rong and Guo Jing turn the tables on them, and the three Taoists are wounded and forced to retreat. Xiangyang has been besieged for a long time, and its food and fodder have run out. Kublai invites Lü Wende to a meeting, promising five thousand shi of grain. Lü Wende accepts the invitation and soon dies of illness. With no food inside the city and no reinforcements outside, Xiangyang's walls are eventually blasted open by Mongol Huihui cannons. Guo Jing, Huang Rong, Zhu Ziliu, Yelü Qi, Da Wu, Xiao Wu, and the others fight to the death defending the city. Guo Fu and Guo Polu are captured and die by throwing themselves from the city wall. The Dragon-Slaying Saber falls into the Han River and disappears without a trace. Holding the Heaven-Reliant Sword, Guo Xiang receives help from He Zudao, Zhang Junbao, Tianbao, Kongjian, the Ming Cult's leader Yi, and other rising martial arts masters. They kill the Mongol villains and fight their way out of Xiangyang...
Jia Sidao has brought ruin to the country. Xiangyang has no food within its walls and no reinforcements beyond them. Lü Wenhuan is unable to hold out alone...
