The Fox Speaks Not

A cultivation novel full of schemes, with a couple: a cold, aloof master and a refined, gentle senior disciple who wears a kind face but hides a dark heart.

One scheme across two lifetimes, white robes and blue robes. Those caught in the scheme do not know they are caught in it, and those outside it do not know they are outside it. Others laugh at him for being a fool, just a piece in a game of chess. He laughs at them for failing to see who the game’s life and death are really for.

Ruoxue: I cultivated for ten thousand years, understood the ways of all living things, gained insight into the secrets of immortality, mastered demonic power, and attained an immortal body through the Dao, becoming the sovereign of the mortal realm. But fate is written in Heaven. If Heaven seeks to take my disciple’s life, then I will defy Heaven and change the Dao. I alone shall be supreme.

Liu Qingqing: Given another life, I don’t want to contend with Heaven or fight with anyone. I only want that person to be safe and well, year after year.

1. This is a story of schemes, plotted from the very first paragraph of the first chapter. Nothing you see or hear, nothing at all, is necessarily true.

2. Romance isn’t the focus. If you don’t understand what’s happening later, go back and reread the earlier chapters. There’s almost no filler, and every plot point may matter later.

3. The tags were assigned incorrectly, so please ignore them. I don’t know what happened either.

4. There are lots of fights starting in Volume Two. Don’t trust the plot descriptions too much: they may be false.

5. Volume One is all about laying the scheme. The unraveling begins in Volume Two.
