To investigate whether Nebula Media president Qin Fei was involved in the deaths of her companions and her biological father, Shen Yun goes to interview at Nebula and happens upon an emergency. She is injured while trying to help others, but the incident also works in her favor: she lands a job at Nebula and meets vice president Shi Chengming, who wants to drive Qin Fei out of the company. The two hit it off and join forces to investigate Qin Fei. As they cooperate and use each other, feelings quietly begin to develop between them. As the second son of the chairman of the Nebula Group, Shi Chengming is determined to earn his father's recognition. Knowing what Qin Fei is really like, he cannot stop his older sister from marrying him, so he tries every means to expose Qin Fei's true nature and protect the family fortune. Their investigation uncovers not only that Qin Fei is secretly transferring Nebula's assets, but also that the Qin father and son fabricated evidence to cover up their crimes. But while the mantis stalks the cicada, the oriole waits behind: Qin Fei has known all along that Shen Yun and the others are investigating him. He waits until they find evidence, then steals it and murders Shen Yun's companion, Gu Kai. To keep Shi Chengming from getting dragged in too deeply, Shen Yun decides to marry Qin Fei's younger brother, Qin Fan, and search for evidence anew. To protect Shen Yun, Shi Chengming deliberately frames her and has her arrested. Using himself as bait, and with everyone's help, Shi Chengming ultimately brings the Qin father and son's crimes from ten years ago to light. At last, disgraced and with nowhere left to turn, Qin Fei decides to take Shi Chengming down with him.
